Contact Governor Wolf and COMPLAIN

Governor Wolf has thrown business and money to them open and freely. In 2018, he gave them the Medicare and Medicaid contracts as one of the 3 MCOS chosen, of course Blue Cross or United Health was not chosen which would have been a major competition to them.

UPMC gained millions and was allowed to open even more hospitals. The most appalling thing they tried to remain non-profit but the first quarter profit they made off of the program alone blew that out of the water, they still argued that they should remain non-profit so they don't have to pay taxes. Didn't work they were finally forced out of non-profit.

Governor Wolf has allowed them to grow 10x bigger he throws them money and business, nothing mind you they had to work for, they take over someone else's years of sacrifice and work much like the Governor does and kicks them to the curb. If PA residents don't wake up and start fighting to take back their insurance they are going to be forced to take UPMC.

Horrible ER services

UPMC - Horrible ER services
This is the second time in two months I have been in the ER with UPMC. Both times at East and Shadyside I had to stay overnight. IN THE ER!!! These rooms are not conducive to rest or sleep. Lights are bright. Halls are noisy with nurses and patients. I definitely will not be having a restful night. What is going on ?? A new hospital built to underserve the community. UPMC really missed the mark here. Maybe next time I need to go to the ER, I’ll try St Margaret’s. Maybe they know how to run a hospital! Below is a picture of privacy glass walls that allow all the light into the room......how the *** does someone sleep with light in their face?!?!?! Dear CEO.....fix these shortage issues....it’s your job!

Go out side of Altoona Pa for a true diagnosis and treatment for Cancer/radiation etc.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Doctors in the Altoona, Pa do not exhibit the training, experience, or quality care in their profession that is truly needed. This town is about money.Depending on what insurance you have determines the care you receive. Also, Cancer and Radiation/chemo are thrown at you like candy and there is not one doctor that provides a quality professionalism for your damages, or concerns or issues in aftercare. They are truly inexperienced and straight up only treat symptoms. They Do NOT attempt to diagnose or treat a cause of any disease or illness. This town's quality is based on "common" illness that they treat on a daily basis. Issues such and damages from their radiation etc. are ignored, undocumented and they are fully non-committed to their profession or specialty. Guess work, arrogance, ignorance and avoidance is how they schedule 12 people for the same day and time. With 10 minutes per person, their listening to your immediate problems that you are there for and then are ignored anyways. They take your money, and provide the least amount of quality care a possible. They treat ONLY what they know and do nothing more than throw pills at you. To this day, UMPC Altoona and it's affiliate doctors have, ignored real diagnosis, ignored quality treatment. misdocumented the facts and serve only the purpose of the hospital they are associated with and not their patients. Altoona is an old town with older people that are being taken for a ride insurance wise and not providing quality care for person. The Cancer/radiation/radiation damages/doctors and intentional neglect has been horrific. I should of went OUT of altoona and got a second opinion and treatment in a much more experienced area. P.S. No sense in complaining.. No one is listening and again, No one is this area is being held accounted for their actions, or poor quality of care.

Be aware of pain managements attempt to steer you to medical marijuana. It is still a level 1 narcotic under federal and state laws. Operation of any motor vehicles (car, truck, or motor boat) with any amount in your systems is DUI. You can no longer hunt with a firearm, or be in possession of a firearm. No more protection permit. You can not take on and airline or take it out of the state of Pa. None is cover by insurers. The PA medical marijuana card does not offer you any protections.

Keeping patients in the dark

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was accepted as a transfer patient from a FL hospital to UPMC Presbyterian. UPMC MD did not have to say yes.

He could have said they were too busy. There were at least 10 other good choices for complex esophageal surgery nationally. It took over a month before I met the attending surgeon. Care was by residents with no distinction as to seniority for me.

No treatment plan was discussed with me for weeks. I had to see the patient advocate just to get to see my surgeon once and hear the options. He didn’t surface again. He did however discuss a surgery date 1 week away.

By second hand I learned he meant 2 weeks and then 1 month. Although I live in FL, they had no problem sending in a discharge planner to talk to me about going to a hotel with a feeding tube and PICC line, alone, to await surgery. No help as far as transfer to another hospital of my choice. Bottom line - mediocre physical plant, mediocre nursing, extreme communication problems, total insensitivity as to emotional consequences of a 42+ day hospital stay and life threatening illness.

It is nonsense that a whole division is based on a single surgeon - he is mortal too, so the implication is that should he go, the entire department would collapse. The surgeon had no problem telling me he was the best in the world.

At this point I would settle for second best. Or 3rd best......

Terrible health insurance that you have to use if you work there. And you can only use UPMC docs. Conflict? It get's better anything done at outside facilities that is not an emergency is zero covered, though we paid thousands for the coverage. Shame on this terrible healthcare.

Medical Battery and Assault

Maybe HARD TO BELIEVE, but this 55 year old male was FULLY conscious, alert and oriented when transported to UPMC's trauma center against my will after a BMX crash at South Park BMX. Medical records note, "ARRIVED CONSCIOUS, ALERT AND ORIENTED", and "Denies medical problems" (did not want care), and "STATED HE DID NOT WANT TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL". Every adult of sound mind has the right to refuse care since 1914, but strapped to a stretcher with a neck brace contraption around me, I was unable to move at all when they cut off all of my clothes and jabbed an IV or something sharp into my abdominal area, then subjected me to over $15,000 of scanning tests. The conclusion was "No evidence of traumatic injury". No injuries of any kind were actually cared for - just $15,000 of unwanted scanning tests that found nothing... After a $500 co-pay, rest would be covered by my insurance, but this was Medical Battery and Assault folks. Submitted complaints to the Dept of Health, Dept of State and Attorney General's Office with ultimately no help... UPMC claims that I initially balked at care, but then consented to it (while strapped down to a stretcher and unable to move and with something sharp jabbed into me). To have consent, it must be 1) voluntary, and 2) free from duress. It might be hard to imagine the fear that takes over a person when they are completely unable to move anything but their hands to the wrist and people are doing things to you that you don't want them to, and then you start to feel a sharp pain being inflicted to your abdominal area but a neck brace prevents you from even seeing what they are doing. HARD TO BELIEVE, but 100% true. Shame on you UPMC!!

Took my husband there for a appt for his drug screening and physical appt to start employment. They where very cold and very rude. No wonder everyone that everyone i talked to says this place is very cold and rude place to go for your pre employment exam and drug screening they told me it was very cold and like you are convinced of a crime feeling as soon as you walk in the women at the front desk was just as cold and rude as well.but the doctors office on the other side of the office was alot more pleasant and kind. I would not recommend anyone one to go here but seeing it was for pre employment you have no choice People should have a better bed side manor and be a little more pleasant.

They illegally attempt to charge you out of network prices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Then they lie and say the bill has been fixed. After 2 years of phone calls and collection bills, I still don't know if its fixed because they will never send me an itemized bill. Now after an ER visit, I was once again charged out of network prices ($300 for Dr to see me for 1 minute, he was even bragging about how fast he was that particularly night) It is against FEDERAL LAW to charge Tricare patients more than the allowable charge. Get it together or the govt is going to come after you. I am filing a complaint right after I finish this message. UPMC may think they can get away with it, but with me you won't. I have all day to wait on the phone, contact govt agencies, and write letters/emails. Once is a mistake, twice is a unspoken policy.

I experienced the same thing with their "No Customer Service Here Dept." Dr Brooks (I would not recommend to my enemies) and UPMC insurance allowed me to be charged for procedures that had been done a few weeks earlier. I was to get a biopsy and Dr Brooks ordered tests that were not authorized by the insurance.

I had to pay for those tests. My question would be, who but the doctor would know that tests need to be authorized?

This doctor and UPMC Employee insurance took full advantage of my trust in them and the doctor. Shame on you UPMC.

See June Medical Battery & Assault Post. Of course I'm not going to pay for forced care that I didn't want. I too had my charges sent to collections 1 year and 5 months after disputing the charges.

Poor customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Visited the rehab department on March 21, 2019. Checked in on the computer and received the message that I could pay using the computer or pay at the window. I wanted a physical receipt and went to the window. I was ignored for several minutes then Kathleen with pink hair ask what I needed. I told her that I want to pay my co-pay. She was annoyed and told me that I could pay at the check in computer. I mentioned that the instructions on the computer stated either payment while checking in or at the window. She told me that I should pay at the computer because it was faster. I explained I preferred at printed receipt. She begrudgingly took my payment and provided me with a receipt. I was having a not so good day and Kathleen just made it worse.

I need a knee replacement. I’m bone-on-bone with in my knee, osteoarthritis, patellofemoral arthritis, and many other issues.

I’ve had 13 prior surgeries to this joint. I’m under chronic pain management. Two nerve ablations, prp injection, and many other injections. I’ve had pt on top of things.

They denied bc I’m not 40, but they said they don’t discriminate against age. Clearly, they do. My history is clear cut. It’s obvious they are too dumb.

Dr.

Stephen Perkins was one of the deciding factors on my case and he’s not even orthopedic surgeon. I’m glad at the beginning of new year I won’t have this company.

Unprofessional staff at Dr. Georgeadis office

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On December 7 I had a post opt appointment for gall bladder surgery Dr. Georgeadis misdiagnosed my double hernia. I contacted his office spoke with Barb about this issue. No contact was ever returned. I then contacted his office three more times speaking with Barb to no avail. Due to the fact that I was never contacted back I had to take other action by contacting my PCP about this issue. My PCP had to contact Dr. Georgeadis on my behalf to resolve this issue. Dr. Georgeadis then contacted me the next day. I received an appoint on Wednesday December 19 . ON Thursday 20th I did an oral dye contrast test. PCP notified me on that same day I had a double hernia. Dr.Georgeadis office never contacted me about any of these results. PCP recommended to see a different surgeon because of these issues. I feel I have been disrespected by this office staff and Dr. Georgeadis for not resolving these issues. I have never been treated like this before by any UPMC staff. Please contact me pertaining to this issue to stop it from happening to anyone else. This has caused me great stress , many phone calls loss of disability payments. Karen Kurka . phone number 412-576-****. THANK YOU !!!!!
